The Abilene Paradox

The Parable of The Abilene Paradox was developed in 1974 by Jerry Harvey to illustrate the issue of "mismanaged agreement."  It illustrates how we often "go along to get along."  When we are hesitant to disagree with one another, we often cause our organizations to waste time, effort, and money.

When I first viewed the video several years ago, I recognized how often leadership in the church may "go along to get along," rather that openly dealing with differences.

Read a summary of The Abilene Paradox.

"Organizations frequently take action contrary to the desires of their
members, and thereby defeat the very purpose they set out to achieve."
