St Patrick's Day

Today is Saint Patrick's Day.  It marks the day Patrick died in Ireland in 460 AD.  Today we join our Irish brothers and sisters in the traditional "wearing of the green."  But more importantly, the intended meaning of this day is a day for spiritual renewal and the offering of prayers for missionaries worldwide.

As we recall the life of Patrick who was kidnapped as a sixteen-year-old and began to speak with God while watching sheep on the side of the mountain, who responded to the call to go to Ireland with the good news of Jesus Christ; may we also remember today those who serve as missionaries to God's people in other lands.

This prayer is often attributed to Saint Patrick:

May the Strength of God guide us.
May the Power of God preserve us.
May the Wisdom of God instruct us.
May the Hand of God protect us.
May the Way of God direct us.
May the Shield of God defend us.
May the Angels of God guard us
against the snares of the evil one.

May Christ be with us.
May Christ be before us.
May Christ be in us, Christ be over all.

May Thy Grace, Lord,
Always be ours,
This day, O Lord, and forevermore.  Amen.
