The President in My Backyard

Wakarusa will play host to President Obama on Wednesday!

President Obama will visit Monaco RV in Wakarusa on Wednesday noon for a speech that will not be open to the public. The Monaco RV plant was bought in June by Navistar International Corp.

According to White House officials, "He will discuss how we build a new economic foundation strong enough to withstand future economic storms and support lasting prosperity, and how we recapture the spirit of innovation that has always moved America forward."

The event will be by invite only, but open to the press. The arrival and departure of Air Force One at about 11:10 am at South Bend will be open to the press but closed to the public.

Meanwhile a local political group led by State Representative Jackie Walorski will be mobilizing nearby to rally opposition to the President. Their stated purpose is "to gain national media exposure" according to an email sent by Walorski today.

Even Indiana Republican Governor Mitch Daniels is trying to upstage the President by scheduling a visit to Elkhart on Tuesday to make a jobs announcement at a Tuesday morning press conference. The "announcement" was made last week that Dometic will be bringing 250 new jobs to Elkhart after receiving a 10-year property tax abatement.
