The Religion Clause blog reports that the Connecticut law implementing same-sex marriages exempts religious organizations and clergy. The bill provides that no member of the clergy shall be required to solemnize any marriage in violation of his or her right to the free exercise of religion and no church shall be required to participate in solemnizing a marriage in violation of its religious beliefs. read more

The blog also reported that the court has effectively refused to block the installation of the new pastor of Riverside Church in New York. A group of congregants are concerned about the size of the pastor's compensation package and his more conservative style of religious practice. In the past, Riverside Church has been a center of social activism. The judge urged the parties to reach a settlement of their disputes. read more and from the New York Times
