Lenten Prayer

God, you have invited us to pray in your name. You tell us that anything we ask in your name will be given to us. We thank you for your love and generosity that seems to know no limits, and yet we who love you would not want to mis-use your generosity.

We would seek to ask for only those things that are good for us, for our churches, for our world, and for those of your children with specific needs.

God, you have invited us to pray in your name, so that asking we might receive -- that our joy may be complete. We thank you for the forgiveness that comes to us as a gift from you, and that you desire us to become whole, to become all that we can be.

We would ask that our lives be filled with the fruits of your Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

God, hear our prayers for for all your children throughout this global community;
  • hear our prayers for wholeness, for justice, and for peace.
  • hear our prayers on behalf of those who are hungry, homeless, and lonely.
  • hear our prayers for those who have lost homes, property and loved ones.
  • hear our prayers for those who have lost their sense of purpose and reason for living.
  • hear our prayers for all who do not yet know of your love and forgiveness.
God, we would pray not only that you hear our prayers, but that you would use us as channels of your love to meet these various petitions in Jesus' name. Amen.
