Human Rights Day

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the most widely translated document in the world, according to its website, available in more than 360 languages.

This year, the declaration celebrates its 60th anniversary. In 1948, still reeling from the atrocities committed in World War II, the newly formed United Nations wished to guarantee every person in every country around the world certain undeniable rights. The 50 U.N. members states adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which includes among others freedom from torture and enslavement.
