Anniversary of Landing at Plymouth Rock

On this date in 1620 the Mayflower landed at Plymouth Rock with 102 pilgrims on board. The 66-day journey from England had been a grueling one and two persons had died. Due to weather conditions the passengers spent the winter on board and did not move ashore until April. About one-half of the passengers were religious separatist who desired a life where they could practice their religion freely.

Weather in Plymouth, Massachusetts today calls for a high of 40 degrees and a low of 20 degrees. Snow showers are in the forecast for tomorrow with a high temperature of only 30 degrees. What a shock this winter weather must have been to those early pilgrims.
