Preparation for Ministry

I believe that men and women who want to serve
as pastors in the 21st century should go to seminary
and do what is necessary to achieve the degree. But
let’s not assume that the degree is all that matters.
How is the call articulated and affirmed? What’s the
level of commitment to God and to the daily grind
of pastoral routines? What life skills are evident? And
what obstacles are present that need to be addressed
and overcome?

So writes Tom Zuercher, pastor of the Ashland Dickey
Church of the Brethren and former district executive.
